Zulmira Santos has taught at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto since 1982. She is currently Head of the Department of Portuguese and Romance Studies and director of the Master Program on Cultural, Literary and Interartistic Studies. She was the Scientific Coordinator of the Research Center on History of Spirituality (2002-2007) and of the Research Group Religious Practices and Sociabilities (2007-2016) at CITCEM (the Transdisciplinary Centre Culture, Space and Memory). She was PI of the Research Project «PTDC/HAH/72899/2006» Spirituality and the Court (16th to 18th century) and a member of the European projects «Letras de frailes: textos, cultura escrita y franciscanos en Portugal y en el Imperio portugués (siglos XVI-XVIII), «Arcadia Babélica. Cambio de paradigmas identitarios en las academias portuguesas del antiguo régimen», and of the editorial project Die Bibel und die Frauen, Eine exegetisch-kulturgeschichtliche Enzyklopädie. She was a member of the Erasmus Mundus PhD program TEEME (Text and Event in Early Modern Europe), and has taught across Europe within the framework of the Erasmus Mobility programme.
Zulmira Santos’s main research interests include Early Modern Portuguese Literature and Culture (fiction and poetry); Book History and print culture(16th-18th); Religious Literature (written culture of religious orders in a colonial context -16th and 17th centuries) and travel literature overseas (16th and 17th centuries).
Zulmira Santos will co-supervise one MOVES research project: “Forms of Displacement in Past and Present”.
